Danielle Savre explains  why she is "proud" to play bisexual firefighter Maya On Station 19

Danielle Savre explains  why she is "proud" to play bisexual firefighter Maya On Station 19!
Danielle was excited to play character Maya Bishop, who first exposes about her sexuality early within the series. 'I was told within the first meeting we had for the show and was honored to play a bisexual character! I have tons of friends that are a part of the LGBTQ community and I even have always taken pride in representing them in roles I even have taken throughout the years.'

The Summerland actress, who identifies as straight, continued explaining: 'I am very hooked in to breaking certain stereotypes surrounding LGBTQ characters and advocating ways to diversify the stories that are being told.

'I congratulate [creator] Stacy McKee for not making Maya's sexuality an event and simply making it another element of who she is,' Danielle told the magazine. 'I commend [creator] Stacy McKee for not making Maya's sexuality an event and simply making it another facet of who she is.'

Danielle has a strong bond with her character, describing how 'Stacy skillfully layers the facets of Maya, throwing a light on her shortcomings, attributes, and traits.' 'Maya is a believer, an optimist, a devoted friend, a feminist, tenacious to a fault, and her own harshest critic. From her brother being a recovering addict to her earning a gold medal at the London Olympics before hanging up her shoes and electing to become a fireman, she has a lot to play off of.

'Typically, a program begins with a character that must be built from the ground up with no past.' Maya was given to me with so many intriguing and engaging details that it was a breeze to walk into her shoes. I'm looking forward to continuing to bring her to life and seeing how she develops.'
Danielle's admirers have already formed a close bond with her.'I've been blessed with the most fantastic and dedicated followers,' the Deep Blue Sea 2 actress added. 'They have always supported my work and me, regardless of the part or project...'

'As for Maya, I've felt an outpouring of love and acceptance for her.' I believe her enthusiasm for life and firefighting is contagious, making it thrilling not just for the audience to watch but also for me to play.' Breaking down barriers for Savre also entails being a strong champion for body acceptance and positivity, regardless of her size.

'I stay loyal to myself and accept how my body appears at any given time,' she explained.
'It doesn't always turn out the way I want it to, and that's fine.' It's fine if I want to devour a basket of fries or simply indulge a little. I believe we must remember to live in the now. It's more about being healthy and loving and caring for our bodies.
'Isn't it true that we only have one?' she clarified.
