"I have an issue for you" Carina declared as Maya sipped on her wine. Although Carina was focused on flames dancing in her fireplace as she spoke, Maya was focused solely on the lady beside her, unable to try to to anything but appreciate the way the hearth illuminated her features.
"Okay, shoot" Maya nodded, realizing after a moment's pause that Carina was expecting permission before she asked anything. A soft smile took over Maya's lips at how well she already appeared to be ready to read Carina despite the very fact this was only their fourth date. it had been a incontrovertible fact that further confirmed that the doctor was someone special.
"Why did you become a firefighter?" Carina asked. Her voice was laced with intrigue as she finally turned to Maya, the warmth rising in her cheeks when she realized the opposite woman had been watching her the whole time. "Olympian to fireside Captain looks like quite big career jump..."
"Everyone who asks that question always thinks it must are due to some big life-changing moment" Maya chuckled, swirling what was left of her wine around in her glass as she considered her answer to Carina's question "They think most firefighters must've been saved from a fireplace or an accident or something before they might even consider it as a career"
"And that's not what happened in your case?" Carina asked, wondering if Maya was getting to provide her with a correct answer. the opposite woman had once joked that she liked to stay an air of mystery about her once they were laying in bed together, talking once they should've been sleeping, but Carina decided to urge to understand everything about Maya. She was fascinating.
"Not at all" Maya shook her head "I got lecture a firefighter at my highschool career day and that i do not know what it had been about him but I walked away feeling more inspired and I'd remember our conversation at the strangest of moments for years afterwards. After I won my medal, i used to be trying to find a replacement challenge and once I called the academy to urge some information it had been that very same firefighter who answered the phone. it had been almost as if it had been meant to be or something"
"Do you think altogether that?" Carina asked, inching closer to Maya on the couch "That things are meant to be?"
"Yeah" Maya nodded, closing the space between them and kissing Carina's lips chastely before breaking up "I do believe that some things and more importantly some people are meant to be..."
